Indian Wells 2020 will not take place because of the Coronavirus
The ATP Indian Wells is one of the biggest and most significant tennis tournaments in the world,
unfortunately, it will not be played as scheduled next week because of the coronavirus.
The BNP Paribas Open was set to begin this week but it has been canceled
after a case of the new coronavirus was confirmed in the Coachella Valley
in Southern California.
Dr.David Agus is a professor of the medicine and biomedical engineering at the Univerity of Southern California
had mentioned how tough it is to play in Indian Wells,
“There is too great a risk, at this time, to the public health of the Riverside County area in holding a large gathering of this size,”
“It is not in the public interest of fans, players and neighboring areas for this tournament to proceed.”
“We all have to join together to protect the community from the coronavirus outbreak.”
The BNP Paribas Open offered the refunds for this year’s event or credit toward next year’s tournament for the fans,
It’s sad to see this happen, but the health of people is always the first priority,
The same as the clay season as it’s located in Europe including Italy where this is the coronavirus as well.
